Pakistan and Afghanistan border clashes result in casualties
Clashes have erupted along the Durand Line between Pakistani and Afghan security forces, resulting in fatalities on both sides. Reports indicate that several Afghan soldiers were killed after the Pakistani military launched retaliatory strikes against suspected positions, including a base camp and a post, in response to gunfire from the Afghan side.
In a separate engagement near the Paktia province, approximately seven Pakistani soldiers reportedly died during heavy exchanges of fire. The conflict has disrupted cross-border trade and forced local villagers to evacuate to safer areas.
The violence stems from long-standing tensions regarding border security, military posts, and militant activity. Pakistan has accused the Taliban government of allowing militants, specifically from Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate within Afghan territory and launch incursions. Conversely, Afghan authorities have accused Pakistan of unauthorized border post construction and have denied allegations regarding support for militants.
