Pakistan and China sign Sost-Khunjerab Green Channel trade agreement
Pakistan and China have signed an agreement to operationalize a Green Channel at the Sost-Khunjerab border crossing to facilitate the trade of agricultural and allied products. The agreement was finalized during a virtual ceremony hosted by Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) in Islamabad.
Under this arrangement, customs administrations from both nations will provide priority processing and examination for eligible consignments on a mutually approved list. To address the time-sensitive nature of agricultural trade, the deal includes provisions for the priority handling of perishable goods to minimize delays and ensure timely cross-border movement.
The initiative aims to streamline procedures while maintaining effective oversight through risk-based controls and enhanced information exchange. Both countries have committed to sharing risk alerts to improve coordination and manage cross-border trade more efficiently. This move is expected to strengthen economic connectivity between Pakistan and China, particularly along the route linking Gilgit-Baltistan with China’s Xinjiang region.
