Pakistan and Iran report progress in talks on regional conflict

Pakistan and Iran have reported “significant progress” in diplomatic discussions aimed at addressing the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and finding a path toward peace. Following a visit to Tehran by Pakistani Army Chief General Asim Munir, the Pakistani military stated that talks focused on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, and accelerating an end to the conflict.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who accompanied Munir, described the exchange with the Iranian President as “very constructive.” The discussions also covered regional peace and potential negotiated settlements to the ongoing dispute.

Prior to the Tehran visit, General Munir reportedly spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump. Reports suggest the U.S. may have requested Pakistan use its influence to bring Iran back to the negotiating table. This comes amid warnings from President Trump regarding economic consequences for nations providing a “lifeline to Iran,” while Iran has threatened to halt all oil exports from the Gulf.
