Pakistan and UK agree to formal foreign ministry mechanism

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in London to discuss bilateral relations and regional security issues. The two officials agreed to establish a structured mechanism for formal consultations between their respective foreign ministries to enhance cooperation across various sectors.

During the talks, Dar addressed the Indus Waters Treaty, highlighting what he described as India’s “persistent violations” of international obligations and emphasizing the necessity of upholding international law. He also expressed serious concern regarding terrorist threats originating from Afghan soil, noting that militant groups operating from Afghanistan pose a direct threat to Pakistan’s peace and security.

The discussions also covered the situation in the Middle East. Miliband acknowledged Pakistan’s role in promoting diplomacy and stability in the region. Both parties emphasized the importance of the Pakistani diaspora in maintaining strong people-to-people ties between the two nations.
