Pakistan and US agree to enhance energy sector cooperation
Pakistan and the United States have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, focusing on energy security, fuel supplies, and investment opportunities. During a meeting between Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker, discussions centered on maintaining uninterrupted fuel supplies despite geopolitical challenges in the Middle East.
Key areas of potential collaboration include the procurement of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the modernization of Pakistan’s domestic refineries. Managing directors from Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) briefed officials on interest shown by American companies regarding LNG supplies. Additionally, Minister Malik highlighted that Pakistan’s refinery upgradation programme could present significant investment opportunities for US financial institutions.
Chargé d’Affaires Baker expressed optimism regarding long-term energy supply contracts, noting they would benefit both nations by strengthening commercial ties. Malik also invited US companies to participate in the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum to explore further investment avenues.
