Pakistan announces Test squad for Sri Lanka series

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced an initial 14-member Test squad for the upcoming two-match ICC World Test Championship series against Sri Lanka. The series is scheduled to take place in Rawalpindi and Lahore from November 9 to 21.

Babar Azam will continue to captain the side. The selection marks a significant shift toward youth and domestic performers, resulting in the omission of several senior players, including former captain Shan Masood, Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, and Abdullah Shafique. Additionally, the spin duo of Sajid Khan and Noman Ali has been left out.

Three uncapped players—Mohammad Taha, Mohammad Suleman, and Sameer Minhas—have received maiden call-ups following strong performances in first-class cricket. The squad also sees the return of Salman Ali Agha and left-arm spinner Ali Usman.

Before the series begins, a three-day warm-up match will be held at the Islamabad Club from November 4 to 6. The PCB intends to select two additional fast bowlers from the Patron’s XI squad to join the main Test team following the conclusion of this warm-up fixture.
