Pakistan approves expansion of Lahore and Karachi airports

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the expansion of Lahore and Karachi airports in accordance with their respective master plans. During a high-level meeting in Islamabad, the Prime Minister directed officials to complete these projects within specified timelines while ensuring all construction and services meet international standards.

To improve passenger experience, Sharif called for the involvement of internationally recognized organizations to enhance facilities and service delivery. He emphasized the need for regular staff training, better coordination between airport agencies, and the hiring of reputable catering companies to maintain high food and beverage standards. He also requested independent third-party assessments for the expansion projects.

Regarding current progress, officials reported that runway expansion at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi has been completed. Additionally, the Civil Aviation Authority has reactivated 14 airports for domestic flights over the past year, and work is progressing on automated E-Gates and air cargo hubs to modernize border management.
