Pakistan Army completes 66-km Astore-Skardu road
The Pakistan Army has completed the construction of a 66-kilometre road track in Gilgit-Baltistan, connecting Shagma in Astore with Manthokha in Skardu. Built through challenging mountainous terrain, the new route significantly reduces travel time between the two districts to just a few hours.
The project restores direct access to district headquarters for eight villages located in the Phoota Khas Valley of Gultari, which previously lacked a direct link. The road is expected to facilitate local economic activity by supporting trade, agriculture, and the transportation of livestock between Astore and Skardu, allowing farmers and traders to reach markets more efficiently.
