Pakistan authorities detain 130 Malaysians in cyber scam raid
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) of Pakistan raided a suspected online scam center at KASA Tower in Rawalpindi, resulting in the detention of 130 Malaysian passport holders. The suspects, who represent various ethnic backgrounds, reportedly operated a call center that targeted Malaysian citizens by impersonating bank customer service officers and police officials.
According to reports, the syndicate used video calls and police uniforms to intimidate victims, claiming they were involved in money laundering to coerce them into transferring funds. The proceeds were allegedly moved through e-wallets before being converted into cryptocurrency. Investigations suggest the operation was directed by a Malaysian national based in Cambodia.
Malaysian Inspector-General of Police Khalid Ismail confirmed that authorities are working with the Pakistani government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to obtain full details of the detainees. Some individuals held valid visas, while others had overstayed. The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) may deploy investigators to Pakistan to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
