Pakistan authorities seize illegal foreign exchange, stock market gains
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Karachi arrested suspect Saeed Atif Abbas Zidi for illegal foreign‑exchange trading. During the raid, agents recovered 23,107 US dollars, 45,000 Saudi riyals, 1.0116 billion Iranian riyals, 3.31 million Pakistani rupees, two prize bonds, several checks, four iPhones and related transaction records.
On the same day, the Pakistan Stock Exchange opened strongly. The 100‑index rose by 1,400 points to 181,428, pushing total market capitalization above 20.09 trillion rupees. Inter‑bank trading showed the US dollar slipping to 277.74 rupees, a slight decline from the previous session. Trading volume reached 740.558 million shares worth 35.907 billion rupees, with notable activity in Trust Brokerage, WorldCall Telecom and Synergyco.
These developments highlight heightened enforcement against illicit currency activities alongside a buoyant domestic equity market.
