Pakistan bus plunge in Balochistan kills 40, injures 8

On July 3, 2026 a passenger bus travelling from Quetta toward Peshawar went out of control on the Sherani‑Zhob highway and fell about 70–80 feet into a ravine in the Dana Sar area near the Balochistan–Khyber Pakhtunkhwa border. The vehicle was carrying 48 people, having taken additional passengers from a broken‑down bus, and was severely overloaded.

Rescue teams from Balochistan’s emergency services, the Frontier Corps, police, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa authorities were deployed. Forty bodies were recovered and eight people were taken to the district hospital in Zhob for treatment. Sherani Deputy Commissioner Hazrat Wali Kakar said the injured were being rescued and shifted to nearby hospitals. President Asif Ali Zardari and Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed condolences and directed authorities to ensure the injured receive proper medical care. An official probe has been launched to determine the cause, amid criticism of the region’s poor road infrastructure, lack of safety barriers and lax enforcement of passenger‑capacity limits.
