Pakistan Climate Change Authority declared inactive by Senate Committee
A Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change, chaired by Senator Sherry Rehman, has criticized the Pakistan Climate Change Authority for being completely inactive. Federal Minister Musaddiq Malik reportedly acknowledged the authority's failure to function effectively during parliamentary proceedings.
The committee highlighted significant administrative failures, noting that 14,000 government schools destroyed during the 2022 floods have yet to be rebuilt due to bureaucratic delays. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the health impacts of plastic waste, specifically linking the consumption of water from PET bottles exposed to extreme heat to rising breast cancer rates among women. The committee also noted that Pakistan's official recycling system remains among the worst globally.
