Pakistan Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan expands fruit bagging, supports SMEs

Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan reviewed the Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company (PHDEC) and praised its fruit bagging programme, which has improved the quality and exportability of mangoes, bananas and guavas. He directed PHDEC to extend the bags to dates, grapes and peaches and to collaborate with local paper manufacturers and provincial governments to produce the material domestically.

In a separate meeting with the Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industries, the minister pledged to ease regulations for small and medium enterprises, introduce digital registration systems, and develop dedicated industrial zones with reliable utilities. He highlighted reforms aimed at simplifying business procedures, improving access to finance and encouraging growth in food processing, e‑commerce and digital platforms.
