Pakistan conducts airstrikes in Afghanistan amid border tensions
Tensions between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban have escalated following a series of cross-border military exchanges. Pakistan reported conducting airstrikes on 10 sites within Afghanistan, asserting these locations were used to launch drone attacks against Pakistani territory.
Pakistani officials stated that the escalation followed an attempt by militants to infiltrate the border, which was met with shelling and the launch of eight drones by Afghan Taliban forces targeting Pakistani border posts. Pakistani security forces reported successfully neutralizing the drones before they could reach the cities of Kohat and Torkham.
While Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of providing sanctuary to militant groups like the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Taliban administration has denied these allegations. Spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid denied that Afghan forces were involved in the attacks. This recent violence follows earlier incidents this month where Pakistani forces killed 15 militants attempting to cross the border from Afghanistan.
