Pakistan reduces petrol and diesel prices

The Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has notified a reduction in fuel prices in Pakistan, effective September 24, 2026. High-speed diesel prices have been cut by Rs4.21 per litre, bringing the rate to Rs414.75. Petrol prices have decreased by Rs1.93 per litre, resulting in a new price of Rs390.12 per litre.

These adjustments follow a review of international oil market conditions, including changes in Platts rates and petroleum premiums. The Petroleum Division noted that the reduction reflects current global market trends, despite recent volatility in Brent and WTI crude futures.

In a related move to provide relief to citizens, the federal government has modified the Prime Minister’s Special Relief Scheme for fuel. Under the revised rules, beneficiaries for motorcycles, three-wheelers, and rickshaws are no longer required to purchase a minimum of five litres in a single transaction. Instead, they will receive a weekly token worth Rs500 that can be redeemed for any quantity of fuel. Additionally, the eligibility age for two-wheeler and three-wheeler beneficiaries has been increased from 15 to 20 years.
