Pakistan cricket faces leadership crisis after England Test whitewash

Pakistan cricket is facing significant institutional instability following a 3-0 Test series whitewash against England. The defeat has intensified existing turmoil within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), characterized by frequent leadership changes, including three captains and six Test head coaches over the last three years.

Recent developments include the sacking of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and bowling chief Umar Gul. Additionally, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly planning further major shake-ups, which may include the removal of senior selector Aaqib Javed and women’s team mentor Wahab Riaz.

The crisis is further compounded by disciplinary and legal issues, as players Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq are under investigation by the national cybercrime agency regarding allegations of leaking team information. Former players Wasim Akram and Shahid Afridi have described the current state of the sport in the country as “bleak” and “disappointing.”
