Pakistan cricket team faces setbacks in England Test series

The Pakistan cricket team faces mounting challenges during their tour of England. In the first Test match at Leeds, Pakistan suffered a significant setback after England secured a 234-run lead. England posted 409 runs in their first innings, bolstered by Harry Brook’s 91, Jordan Cox’s 73, and Joe Root’s 66. Pakistan’s first innings totaled only 171.

Pakistan also recorded a rare statistical misfortune, losing their first wicket with a score of zero in both the first and second innings. This marks the seventh time in the team’s history that such an occurrence has happened in Test cricket. Additionally, the team’s opening partnerships have struggled, failing to exceed 50 runs in 27 Test innings since 2010.

Compounding these on-field struggles, captain Babar Azam is currently battling a fever ahead of the third Test at Edgbaston. Team manager Navid Akram Cheema confirmed the illness but expressed hope for a quick recovery. This health concern follows a period of significant upheaval within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which recently removed seven players and two coaches following consecutive losses in the series.
