Pakistan's Khawaja Asif Rebuts Mohsin Naqvi Over Governance Reform

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif responded to Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s call for sweeping governance reforms by urging him to start changes within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), saying the board’s decision‑making powers are already concentrated there. In a social‑media post he argued that “all the power is in your hands today; there is no Prime Minister, no Parliament” and defended the existing hybrid system, rejecting claims that it is collapsing.

Naqvi, speaking at the Pakistan Economic Summit, warned that the current administrative structure is inadequate for the country’s growing population and economic challenges, proposing new provinces, administrative units and a National Action Plan. Asif echoed the need for reforms but suggested they begin through the interior ministry and cabinet processes, emphasizing collective decision‑making among senior leaders such as President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Both ministers linked better governance to economic stability and investment attraction.
