Pakistan faces economic, health, and weather alerts

Pakistan is facing several significant developments across economic, health, and environmental sectors. The International Finance Corporation (IFC) plans to mobilise up to $2 billion annually in Pakistan through 2035. This initiative, part of the World Bank Group’s Country Partnership Framework, aims to support small and medium-sized enterprises, public-private partnerships, and housing finance.

In public health, the World Health Organization (WHO) has extended global travel restrictions for Pakistan by three months. The decision follows concerns regarding the continued spread of the wild poliovirus in Pakistan and Afghanistan, with Karachi identified as a central hub for local transmission. The WHO noted that approximately 250,000 children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa remain unvaccinated due to security issues and vaccine refusal.

Environmentally, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alerts for heavy rainfall and potential flash floods between September 25 and 30. High-risk areas include Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where landslides and sudden river surges are expected.

Additionally, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman inspected ongoing development projects at the National Police Academy in Islamabad to ensure construction quality and timely completion.
