Pakistan energy sector: GEPCO proposes capital hike as CPPA seeks tariff increase

Gujranwala Electric Power Company Limited (GEPCO) has proposed increasing its authorised share capital by 50 percent, raising it from Rs50 billion to Rs75 billion. This move follows directives from the Privatisation Commission via the Cabinet Committee on Privatisation. The proposal, which requires an amendment to the company’s Memorandum of Association, is scheduled for consideration at an Extraordinary General Meeting on October 22, 2026.

Separately, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has applied to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an electricity tariff increase of Rs2.56 per unit. The request is intended to recover additional fuel costs incurred during September, where the average fuel cost per unit rose from an estimated Rs7.46 to Rs10.02. Total fuel costs for electricity generation in September reached Rs127.87 billion. NEPRA is scheduled to hold a public hearing on October 29 to review the application.
