Pakistan explores AI integration for development and tourism

Experts and political leaders in Pakistan are discussing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to drive national development and economic growth. At a seminar organized by the Pakistan Institute of International Affairs (PIIA) in Karachi, specialists examined the role of AI in diplomacy and its potential to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Discussions highlighted how AI could augment human capacity in critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and disaster-risk reduction. Specifically, experts noted that AI-powered early-warning systems could improve climate resilience by providing predictive analysis for flood management, a vital tool given Pakistan’s history of flooding.

In a separate address for World Tourism Day, President Asif Ali Zardari advocated for the ethical and responsible use of AI to modernize Pakistan’s tourism sector. He emphasized that while digital technologies can help promote diverse destinations—ranging from northern mountains to Indus Valley heritage sites—the transformation must remain inclusive and benefit local communities while upholding traditional values of hospitality.
