Pakistan faces power outages and rising LPG prices
Pakistan is facing energy instability characterized by nighttime power outages and rising fuel costs. The Power Division reported that a 3,600 MW shortfall, caused by delayed regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) cargoes, has led to periodic electricity outages of up to three hours at night. These delays are attributed to supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz resulting from the US-Iran conflict.
Simultaneously, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has announced an increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices effective September 1. The price per kilogram has risen by Rs4.33, bringing the new consumer rate to Rs258.65. Consequently, the cost of a standard 11.8kg domestic LPG cylinder has increased by Rs51.17, reaching a new price of Rs3,052.09.
