Pakistan faces rising costs as political and dairy groups demand relief
Economic pressures are mounting in Pakistan as political leaders and industry groups demand relief from rising costs. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, stated that the demands of the PTI are legitimate and warned that the government faces significant challenges if it continues to ignore the public's struggle with inflation, electricity, and petrol prices. He criticized the government's handling of petrol levies, suggesting they are an undue burden on citizens rather than a necessity for IMF programs.
Simultaneously, dairy farmers in Karachi are threatening to set milk prices at 300 rupees per liter if the government does not issue a new notification increasing the official rate by 60 rupees per liter. Spokesperson Shabbir Dar cited rising costs for animal feed, transport, and electricity as the primary drivers for this demand, noting that the price of fodder has more than doubled. Farmers warned that failure to adjust rates to reflect production costs could severely disrupt milk supplies in the city.
