Pakistan former Army Chief General Abdul Waheed Kakar dies

Former Chief of Army Staff (Retd) General Abdul Waheed Kakar has passed away in Rawalpindi.

General Kakar served as Pakistan’s army chief from January 1993 to January 1996. His tenure was marked by significant political instability, including the constitutional crisis of 1993 involving tensions between then-President Ghulam Ishaq Khan and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He is noted for his role in managing the political deadlock during that period.

Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir and all ranks of the Pakistan Army paid tribute to his leadership and military career. President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed their condolences and grief over his passing.
