Pakistan fuel prices burdened by high taxes and margins

Citizens in Pakistan are facing a significant financial burden due to heavy taxes, levies, and margins applied to petroleum products. For every liter of petrol consumed, individuals are paying approximately 130.75 rupees in additional costs beyond the base price.

High-speed diesel is also heavily impacted. While the base cost of diesel is 245.82 rupees per liter, the final price charged to consumers is 368.29 rupees. This reflects an additional 122.47 rupees per liter attributed to various government levies, taxes, and margins.

These additional charges exert continuous pressure on transport costs and the prices of essential goods, impacting household budgets. Consumers have called for government intervention to reduce these taxes and margins to provide genuine relief from inflation.
