South Africa and Pakistan implement fuel price adjustments

fuel levy relief petroleum prices cost of living OGRA energy subsidies

South Africa has announced a R10 billion relief package to ease cost-of-living pressures through temporary fuel levy reductions. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana confirmed that from November 4 to December 1, 2026, the fuel levy will be reduced by R3 per litre for diesel and R1.50 per litre for petrol. A smaller reduction of R1.50 for diesel and R1 for petrol will continue until January 5, 2027. While the relief aims to assist motorists and the logistics sector, some economists suggest the impact may be limited as previous price increases continue to move through supply chains.

In Pakistan, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has implemented new fuel rates. Recent revisions show petrol prices decreasing by Rs1.60 per litre to Rs377.71, while high-speed diesel prices have risen by Rs1.64 to Rs391.75. Subsequent updates indicated diesel rising further to Rs393.66 while petrol remained steady at Rs377.71. Petroleum dealers have urged consumers to avoid panic buying to prevent artificial shortages, noting that while domestic refineries are operational, high prices remain a significant concern for the public.
