Pakistan goods transporters suspend nationwide strike for 40 days

The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance has suspended its nine-day nationwide strike for 40 days following negotiations with federal and Sindh government representatives in Karachi. The strike had effectively halted the movement of goods across the country, raising concerns regarding supply chain stability and economic impact.

Under the agreement, the government has provided several assurances to address the transporters' demands. Key concessions include a commitment to revise petroleum prices every 15 days or monthly rather than daily, the formation of a committee to review and reduce toll taxes, and addressing parking-related challenges. Additionally, the government agreed to allow 10-wheeler trucks to carry appropriate weight limits.

While several issues were resolved immediately, others will be addressed through newly formed committees or presented to the federal cabinet for approval within two weeks. The alliance has emphasized that the strike is postponed, not ended, and warned that protests will resume if the agreed-upon measures are not implemented within the 40-day period.
