Pakistan government expresses readiness for unconditional talks with PTI
The Pakistani government has expressed readiness to engage in unconditional negotiations with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. Prime Minister Advisor Rana Sanaullah stated that while talks are possible, the government will not negotiate on the condition of withdrawing the emergency measures currently in place.
Sanaullah emphasized that any meeting between the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader must take place at the Prime Minister’s House, asserting that the residence is state property and not subject to third-party location requests. He also noted that the Prime Minister has sent two letters to the Opposition Leader regarding the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and other members, and is currently awaiting a response.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif defended the imposition of emergency measures, claiming they were a necessary response after PTI failed to cooperate in the fight against terrorism. Government officials alleged that previous attempts at dialogue failed because the PTI leadership reneged on agreements. In contrast, PTI leaders, including National Assembly Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Senate Opposition Leader Allama Nasir Abbas, have rejected these claims and leveled accusations against the government.
