Pakistan government hikes petrol price and trims diesel price

On August 6, Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced new daily fuel rates under a recently adopted daily pricing mechanism. Petrol prices rose by Rs 4.45 per litre to Rs 333.01, while the price of high‑speed diesel fell by Rs 2 to Rs 383.86 per litre.

The adjustment also raised the petroleum levy on diesel by Rs 1.44 per litre, increasing the tax from Rs 70.82 to Rs 72.26. The shift to daily price reviews follows volatile global oil markets linked to renewed Middle‑East hostilities, replacing the previous fortnightly system.

The changes are expected to affect motorists and the transport sector across Pakistan, reflecting the government’s effort to align domestic fuel prices with international market movements.
