Pakistan government holds consultative meetings to boost exports

Pakistani government officials held high-level consultative meetings with industrial and business leaders to address challenges facing the export sector and promote economic revival. Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met with exporters and industrialists to discuss diversifying the export basket, promoting value-added products, and removing structural barriers.

During these discussions, industry representatives highlighted significant concerns regarding rising energy prices, taxation, transportation costs, and various levies, including the captive power gas levy and provincial infrastructure levies. Business leaders expressed appreciation for the EXIM Bank scheme, noting its role in improving access to export financing for international expansion.

In a separate session, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, chaired a meeting of the Task Force on Export and Industrial Enhancement. The task force aims to identify growth opportunities in sectors such as leather, sports goods, cutlery, and carpets to strengthen the national economy and create an enabling environment for private sector expansion.
