Pakistan greenlights Mehran Highway toll and Sialkot‑Kharian Motorway financing
The Sindh cabinet approved the introduction of a toll on the 135‑kilometre Mehran Highway, primarily targeting heavy and commercial vehicles. Officials project gross annual revenue of about Rs 2.14 billion, with net earnings of roughly Rs 1.48 billion to be used exclusively for the highway’s operation, maintenance, rehabilitation and future upgrades. The dualisation of the highway is underway at an estimated cost of Rs 41 billion.
The federal Economic Coordination Committee approved a sovereign guarantee of Rs 27.6 billion for the Sialkot‑Kharian Motorway project. The guarantee is intended to secure financing and accelerate construction of the motorway, which will shorten travel times, improve road safety and strengthen regional trade and logistics by providing faster, more efficient links for passengers and goods.
