Pakistan hosts first W15 international women’s tennis tournament
The Junaid Family Foundation (JFF) Women’s W15 Futures Tournament, the first international women’s tennis tournament at this level held in Pakistan, concluded in Islamabad. The event featured 30 female players representing 17 countries and territories.
US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker attended the closing ceremony, describing the tournament as a milestone for women’s sports and a tool for sports diplomacy to strengthen international ties. Baker expressed hope that the event would inspire more Pakistani athletes to compete in major international competitions, such as the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games.
French player Astrid Cirotte secured the women’s singles title. In the women’s doubles category, China’s Ru Xi Wu and Thailand’s Kamonwan Yodpetch claimed the championship. The tournament was organized in collaboration with the Pakistan Tennis Federation and sponsored by the JFF, led by Pakistani-American philanthropists Ansir and Sufia Junaid, under the theme ‘A Powerful Serve for Women’s Health’.
