Pakistan hosts mango festival in Singapore to boost exports
The Pakistan High Commission in Singapore organized a mango festival to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Singapore. The event aimed to showcase premium Pakistani mango varieties, such as Chaunsa and Sensation (locally known as Lal Badshah), to the Singaporean market to boost agricultural exports and bilateral trade.
Singapore’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, attended as the guest of honor. Pakistan High Commissioner to Singapore Rabia Shafiq stated that the festival was intended to promote a "harmonious blend of Pakistan’s culture, commerce, and cuisine" while deepening connections between the two nations.
Pakistan is a major global mango producer, yielding approximately 1.9 million metric tons annually, though currently, less than four percent of the crop is exported. Last year, the country exported roughly 110,000 metric tons of mangoes valued at approximately $110 million. However, exporters have noted that climate-related crop losses and regional conflict disruptions could impact export earnings this year.
