Pakistan hosts first SCO National Coordinators meeting in Islamabad

Pakistan has commenced its chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) by hosting the first meeting of the Council of National Coordinators in Islamabad. The three-day meeting, running from September 28 to 30, 2026, serves to coordinate activities and prepare for the SCO Council of Heads of State summit, which Pakistan is scheduled to host in August 2027.

Despite strained bilateral relations, an Indian delegation led by National Coordinator Alok Dimri is participating in the talks. The meeting focuses on regional connectivity, innovation, economic cooperation, and people-to-people contacts under the chairmanship theme: ‘Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity’.

In preparation for the high-level 2027 summit, the Pakistani government has approved the procurement of 45 new bulletproof vehicles, including Mercedes-Benz Maybach and BMW models, at an estimated cost of Rs9.6 billion to ensure the security of visiting foreign leaders.
