Pakistan International Airlines fined over 10 million rupees for baggage delays

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has been fined over 10 million rupees by the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) due to delays in delivering passenger baggage and shortcomings in service standards.

The penalties include more than 7 million rupees imposed at Islamabad Airport and approximately 1.485 million rupees at Lahore Airport. Despite a deadline of September 25 to settle the dues, the airline has not yet paid the full amount and is reportedly seeking a reduction or waiver of the fines.

PIA officials have disputed the responsibility for the delays, attributing them to the operational limitations of the PAA. Specifically, the airline cited inadequate conveyor belts and scanners at Islamabad Airport, as well as challenges caused by multiple flights landing simultaneously, as primary factors affecting ground handling efficiency.
