Pakistan-Iran border tensions escalate as armed attackers burn trucks
Tensions have escalated on the Pakistan-Iran border following an attack by armed individuals near Trade Gate 250 in the Rimdan border area. Attackers targeted commercial structures and set fire to several heavy vehicles loaded with fresh fruit, causing significant potential economic losses for local traders and exporters.
The incident involved gunfire between security forces and the armed assailants. Pakistani security forces have launched search operations to locate the attackers and have increased security in the border region to investigate potential links to broader militant activities.
This violence occurs despite a recent visit to Tehran by Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir. While discussions regarding the reopening of the border took place during his visit, trade remains disrupted. Reports indicate that while vehicles traveling from Pakistan to Iran have resumed movement, restrictions persist for vehicles entering Pakistan from Iran. Iranian parliamentary official Fadhoussein Maliki warned that Tehran might close the border on its side if Pakistan continues to block incoming trucks.
