Pakistan Issues Heavy Rain and Flood Alerts Amid Rising Monsoon Threat

Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of heavy rainfall, flash floods and landslides across large parts of the country from 6 July to 10 July. The alert covers Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, the Potohar region, northeastern Punjab, Gilgit‑Baltistan and northern Balochistan, with expected increases in water inflows to the Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs but no major river flooding forecast.

Since late June, 17 people have been killed and more than 40 injured in rain‑related incidents such as roof collapses, lightning strikes and landslides. The NDMA urged the public to stay alert, avoid travel to flood‑prone areas and monitor official forecasts as the monsoon season continues to pose significant risk, especially in Pakistan’s vulnerable mountainous and river‑plain regions.
