Pakistan Issues Nationwide Alerts as Heavy Rain and Windstorms Raise Flood Risks

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide weather alert as pre‑monsoon systems bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, windstorms and isolated hail across the country. The forecast covers Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit‑Baltistan, Islamabad‑Rawalpindi, Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

Flash‑flood warnings focus on southern Punjab’s Dera Ghazi Khan and vulnerable mountain valleys in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where sudden water surges could damage homes and infrastructure. Authorities advise residents to avoid crossing flooded channels, secure loose objects that could become projectiles, and monitor official PMD updates.

The PMD cautions that strong winds, lightning and hail may damage weak structures such as solar panels, electricity poles and billboards. Emergency response teams have been mobilised in high‑risk districts, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has instructed local administrations to clear drainage channels and position rescue equipment.
