Pakistan launches e-passport issuance and updates UAE fees
Pakistan has officially begun issuing modern e-passports at its diplomatic missions worldwide and within the country. These new documents feature advanced security technology designed to meet international standards for identity verification and travel document protection.
Existing machine-readable passports (MRP) remain valid until their current expiry dates. However, all new applications and renewals will now be processed as e-passports.
For Pakistani citizens residing in the United Arab Emirates, the Pakistani embassy has released a revised fee schedule. All payments in the UAE must be made in dirhams. For 5-year e-passports, fees range from 145 AED for 36 pages (normal) to 425 AED for 72 pages (urgent). For 10-year machine-readable passports, fees range from 215 AED for 36 pages (normal) to 635 AED for 72 pages (urgent).
Penalties apply for lost documents: a first-time loss incurs double the standard fee, while a second loss requires payment of four times the fee.
