Pakistan may raise electricity tariff by Rs1.20 per unit

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is holding a hearing on an application from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) to increase electricity tariffs across Pakistan by Rs1.20 per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA). The requested hike reflects the fuel cost of electricity generated in June, where hydropower accounted for 39% of generation, locally sourced coal 10.11%, imported coal 12.65%, imported gas 11.02% and nuclear power 13.40%.

If approved, the additional charge will appear on consumers' August electricity bills, adding to a recent Rs0.34 per unit increase applied to July bills after a similar FCA for May. The adjustments affect all distribution companies nationwide, including K‑Electric, and are expected to impact households already facing rising living costs.
