Pakistan reports 2,084 terrorists killed in 2026, calls for good governance
Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said good governance is essential for Pakistan’s security and that loyalty to the state is a constitutional duty under Article 5. He stressed that any decision on creating new provinces must follow the Constitution and the will of the people, distancing the armed forces from Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks.
Chaudhry presented counter‑terrorism figures for 2026: 2,084 terrorists have been killed, nearly 500 security personnel have died, and a total of 819 Pakistanis have been killed in terrorism‑related incidents (303 army soldiers, 194 police and civil‑armed forces members, and 322 civilians). Security forces have carried out 40,348 intelligence‑based operations nationwide, more than 31,000 of which were in Balochistan. The year saw 3,145 terrorism incidents (1,971 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 1,148 in Balochistan, 26 elsewhere) and 28 suicide bombings, the majority attributed to Afghan nationals. The military ruled out negotiations with militants and described the security situation in Balochistan as not deteriorating.
