Pakistan Minister calls for climate cooperation ahead of COP31

At the Pre-COP31 Dialogue held at the Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad, Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Senator Dr. Musadik Malik, advocated for enhanced international cooperation regarding glacier research, climate innovation, and equitable financing.

Dr. Malik noted that climate financing is currently disproportionately concentrated in major emitting economies. To address this, he proposed several initiatives, including the establishment of a Green Virtual University for scientific collaboration, dedicated funding for green technology start-ups, and a ‘Green Cloud’ to provide access to publicly funded research.

The dialogue, titled ‘From Paris to Antalya: Building Bridges Between the Arctic and the Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya Region,’ focused on the shared risks faced by the Arctic and the Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya (HKH) regions. Participants discussed the implications of glacial retreat on water, food, and energy security, emphasizing the need for transboundary data sharing and accessible adaptation finance.
