Pakistan ministers address hospital tragedy and healthcare reform

Following the tragic death of 14 children at a public hospital, Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Mussadiq Malik has called the incident a major indictment of the national healthcare system. Malik emphasized that systemic improvements are necessary to ensure equal healthcare access for both the rich and the poor, suggesting that if the children of politicians and officials were required to receive treatment in public hospitals like these, the system would improve more rapidly.

Meanwhile, Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has declined to confirm or deny rumors regarding his resignation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, stating that the matter is strictly between himself and the Prime Minister. Kamal noted that the Prime Minister has instructed him not to discuss the issue publicly.

Regarding the investigation into the hospital tragedy, Kamal stated that the public should await the findings of the committee established by the Prime Minister. He noted that the committee has interviewed staff and bereaved families and is expected to provide a comprehensive report. He also addressed the possibility of a parliamentary committee, suggesting that a joint committee could review the findings if any deficiencies are identified in the Prime Minister's report.
