Pakistan mobile manufacturing meets 97% of national demand in July

Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing industry saw a significant surge in July 2026, with local production meeting 97% of national demand. According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local companies manufactured or assembled 3.90 million units in July, representing a 102% increase from the previous month. This rebound is attributed to pent-up consumer demand following the federal budget.

As local manufacturing has increased, mobile phone imports have declined sharply, dropping 83% month-on-month in July. For the first seven months of 2026, local production satisfied 86% of total national demand. Currently, 36 companies, including global brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo, are authorized to assemble devices within the country.

In support of the digital transformation agenda, the PTA has advocated for the rationalization of duties and taxes to improve smartphone affordability. While the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) manages taxation, the PTA emphasized that a balanced tax structure could help discourage illegal imports and IMEI tampering while protecting the growth of the domestic manufacturing sector.
