Pakistan monsoon death toll climbs to 126, electrocution top cause

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reports that Pakistan's monsoon season has caused 126 deaths and 404 injuries between June 26 and August 1. Electrocution was the leading cause of fatalities, followed by flash floods, drowning and lightning. Punjab recorded the highest impact with 47 deaths (including 19 children) and 295 injuries, while Khyber‑Pakhtunkhwa suffered 55 deaths and 82 injuries. Sindh logged five deaths and seven injuries, and Balochistan eight deaths and 15 injuries. Rescue teams carried out multiple operations, saving dozens of people across the affected provinces. Authorities warned that further heavy rains are expected, urging residents to avoid flood‑water, damaged structures and exposed power lines, and to report fallen wires immediately. Ongoing relief efforts focus on restoring essential services and supporting communities as the monsoon continues.
