Pakistan monsoon floods kill 122, displace thousands
Heavy monsoon rains have battered Pakistan, raising the death toll to 122 and injuring 388 people since June 26. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded the highest fatalities, followed by Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan, Sindh and Gilgit‑Baltistan.
The federal government activated the National Emergency Operations Centre and the Emergency Response Committee, chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, to coordinate relief. The National Disaster Management Authority issued a nationwide flood alert for July 31–August 2, warning of rising river flows, flash floods and landslides across many districts.
In Peshawar, floodwaters from the Budhni nullah submerged Sardar Colony, prompting rescue teams to evacuate more than 120 residents. The storm also caused 84 electricity feeders to trip, plunging multiple districts into darkness and forcing the suspension of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit service. Similar flooding and infrastructure damage were reported across Swat, Khyber, Mardan and other areas.
