Pakistan monsoon rains raise death toll to 65 as Lahore faces second spell

The nationwide monsoon death toll in Pakistan climbed to at least 65 after eight more people were killed in Punjab. The fatalities resulted from roof and wall collapses, electrocutions, a drowning and other rain‑related incidents. Punjab authorities warned that the second spell of monsoon rains will continue until July 24, raising river levels on the Indus, Chenab and other waterways and prompting flood‑relief camps and safety advisories.

In Lahore, a second monsoon spell brought heavy rainfall, with Nishtar Town recording the highest total of 42.4 mm. The city’s commissioner placed emergency and drainage teams, traffic police and district officials on high alert, directing them to secure flood‑prone areas, maintain traffic flow and respond quickly to any emergencies. The National Disaster Management Authority issued a weather and flood hazard alert through July 24, warning of flash floods, urban inundation and landslides across vulnerable regions.
