Pakistan monsoon rains trigger flood alerts across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

The Pakistan Meteorological Department forecast a second spell of monsoon rain beginning on 19 July, prompting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab to issue high alerts for severe winds, thunderstorms and heavy rain in numerous districts until 23 July. The alert warns of urban flooding in major cities such as Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan, and of flash floods in mountainous streams, gullies and seasonal drains in areas including Murree, Gilgit, Attock and many others. PDMA advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from power lines and low‑lying zones, and to seek safe shelters during storms, with a helpline (1129) available for emergencies.

PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also released a similar alert covering its districts, highlighting risks of landslides in Chitral, Dir, Swat and surrounding regions, and urban flooding in Peshawar and other towns. Authorities urged residents to stay cautious, avoid riverbanks and follow safety instructions.
