Pakistan mountaineering: Recovery of Dr. Asma Mushtaq and search for missing tourist

Search and rescue operations are underway in Pakistan following two separate mountaineering incidents involving foreign and local climbers.

In Gilgit-Baltistan, the body of Pakistani mountaineer Dr. Asma Mushtaq has been recovered from Spantik Peak. Dr. Mushtaq died on August 20 after suffering a high-altitude medical emergency while descending the 7,027-metre peak. Recovery efforts faced significant delays due to heavy snowfall, strong winds, and difficult terrain. Local climbers and rescue teams have located the remains beyond Camp 3 and are working to transport them to the base camp.

In the Mansehra Mountains, rescue teams have resumed the search for an Irish mountaineer named Alexander, who went missing while descending the Musa Da Musalla peak. Alexander and a British national, Alun David Cooper Cledwyn, had traveled to the Siran Valley to climb the mountain. While Cledwyn successfully returned to his resort, Alexander has not been located. Search teams from Rescue 1122, the police, and the Forest Department are navigating difficult terrain and rain to find him.
