Pakistan moves to strengthen strategic fuel reserves

The Pakistani government and Pakistan State Oil (PSO) are working to strengthen the nation’s strategic fuel reserves and diversify supply sources to mitigate risks from global market volatility. During a visit to PSO’s headquarters in Karachi, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik discussed strategies to protect the domestic fuel market against disruptions in international maritime routes and fluctuating global prices.

Key initiatives under discussion include expanding strategic buffer stocks, improving petroleum storage infrastructure, and diversifying long-term supply sources. The minister emphasized the necessity of proactive preparation to safeguard sectors such as transport, industry, and agriculture, which rely heavily on imported petroleum products.

PSO Chief Executive Officer Jawwad Ahmed Cheema briefed the minister on the company’s financial performance and operational plans. The government has pledged support for modernizing the retail network, accelerating digitization, and enhancing supply chain resilience to ensure economic stability and energy security.
